SPDC is continuing to consolidate its rule

Political situation in Burma is in a state of deadlock. SPDC is continuing to consolidate its rule. Although much stress is applied by the SPDC, opposition movement had not died down.

The education forum led by the NLD and attended by NLD members and fourteen foreigners was an effective move of the opposition. It showed that re-opening all universities and colleges was not considered by the public to be assigning of termination of student activities.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s attempt to go to south of Rangoon on 24th August and to Mandalay on September 20th had forced the SPDC to show their real opinion of political activities. During the second attempt when Aung San Suu Kyi came to the railway station, the SPDC first tried just to refuse the sale of railway tickets. As ASSK continued to stay in the station till the next morning, masses began to the station. ASSK was able to stay longer in the railway station more would be coming to assemble that could lead to mass movement. These incidents proved that ASSK is still influential and people are still willing to follow her if possible.

Economy hasn’t gained considerable progress. Many Thai businesses had withdrawn.

Corruptions are still taking place in the army. The official are demanding bribes from business quarters. Because of spiraling commodity price all officials had to try to acquire some extra income from possible sources. Some soft line military officials pointed out the failure of economy and requested the leadership to think of some changes. Brigadier General Zaw Htun, Deputy Minister of Notational Planning, who tried to express openly the real situation of falling economy is now under suspension. Other military officials are keeping quiet. But it doesn’t mean that they are supporting the economic plan of SPDC.

The population is now facing the effects of failure of education. Their children’s educational standard is lagging behind that of the international standard. Newly education young generation could not find a reliable and prospective future. Many parents including military officials are trying to send their children abroad for education of to make special arrangement inside Burma. The numbers of Burmese students in some universities in Thailand are increasing year after year.

For the people and young generation ASSK is considered to be the only person to bring some changes in Burma. If it is another person in ASSK position, that person would certainly be imprisoned in suppressed in various ways. Many of the efficient leaders had suffered so.

The military could not initiate to find a way to solve the problems in Burma. Their actions are not more than oppressive measures. They have not shown any capacity to improve economy. They are only concentrating on finding was to silence the students.

The military is at present following a way of too much dependence on China. They are purchasing more weaponry from China that are not among good standard in the world. As those hard wares were not able to compete to that of neighbors, ed. Thailand and India, the intention of the SPDC is to suppress its own population and any group in the military who are willing to think of an alternative. The Burmese is hoping on out let.

Hence the best way to solve problems of Burma is to concentrate on peaceful negotiation. Many military officials are ready to agree to the negotiation if it would be able to guarantee their future. They do not want to loose their position and their chances of big income. Such acceptable hope for the military leaders should come out from international community.
