Time to Apologize, Mr. Bush

More than fifty days have passed since two teenage Korean girls were crushed to death by a U.S. military vehicle. But the two souls still couldn't rest in peace, because justice is not well served.

Middle-school students Shin Hyo-sun and Shim Mi-son, walking along the shoulder of hometown road on their way to another friend's birthday party, were run over by a U.S. armored vehicle that weighs 50tons. U.S. army official said the vehicle was running at the regular speed of 8¡16km per hour and the driver failed to see the girls. But witnesses say the vehicle ran very fast. And another armored vehicle from opposite stopped just short of the vehicle. These complex situations and U.S. army's own conclusion melted away any trust to believe.

Furthermore, U.S. army officials claimed ¡°it was no one's fault¡± at first and then changed to negligence, faced with resistance by the victims' relatives and citizens. The attitude of officials at first ignited public resent and anger. Their change of attitude fails to meet justice because the jurisdiction is in the hand of U.S. army.

Koreans believe Korean court should rule the case. The one and only way to justice. Many citizens want apology from U.S. President George Bush. Though there is such a precedent that U.S. President Bill Clinton made an apology for the wrongdoings(rape) of military men in Okinawa Japan, nothing but apology meets the spirits of the U.S. that cherish equal human rights, moreover. And Korean people demand the revision of the unequal Status of Forces Agreement(SOFA), logically.

I think Korean's rages and demands are very rational, and we are covering the issue widely. It is undisputable that Korean government holds the right to charge the criminal who killed innocent people in my country.

Justice choked renders widespread anti-sentiment against U.S. army and U.S.. It's time for President Bush to act, to apologize, for the justice and for the better relationship between two nations.
